FIRST ASIAN INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVES HOUSING CONFERENCE ON POVERTY AND SLUMS

One of the presentation...too bad.. I do not have any picture myself..

Assalamualaikum wbt,

Early part of last week, In the morning...Thanks to invitation from Kak Faridah

I signed for an international conference for INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE HOUSING FOUNDATION FOR ASIA AND THE PASIFIC entitled:

FIRST ASIAN INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVES HOUSING CONFERENCE ON POVERTY AND SLUMS
Organiser: The National Land Finance Cooperative Society Limited, Malaysia
Location : Wisma Tun Sambanthan
Fee : FREE
Attendee : 100 participants throught Asia Pacific
It was launchend by the Secretary General of Minister of Development and Cooperative Malaysia.

I knew nothing about this conference and I was not prepared at all. The solid reason why I attended this conferencde was just because to get some knowledge:
a. How found a cooperative...
b. How to cooperative with other cooperatives international

It was my vision to come up with my own cooperative click here

Some of the itenaries were listed below:
a. Presentations of papers

Slums of Asian Cities: Role of cooperatives for improving their living conditions
Presenter : Dr M L Khurana
Secretary General, International Coop Housing for Asia and the Pasific
MD, Natioanal Cooperative Housing Federation of India

Slums of Asian Cities: Gender Equality
Presenter : Hajjah Zaitun Abd Rahman, KOWANIS , etc

Finally a few things were highlighted:

The rootcause of slums
- Slums rented out their houses fiven by Government to another person
- Those workers whom migrated from one place to build up a giant housing project
end up staying in the area eventhough it is already completed..thus it creats
another slums community
- Actually, people must move accordingly by a populated rate of 3% (cities) : 97%
(urban). Whereas now, where these slums community exist the rate is 60% : 40%
- The rental area for certain houses are very high as compared to job offered.
Thus who can afford to rent, turn up in slum areas

Solutions

1. The cooperative should take initiative to take part in the housing development project through PPP (Public Private Partnership). Some of the areas which is going to be developed will be managed PPP as much as 50% instead of giving them all to developers
2. Women should be given a chance to have a house. They seldom move here and there as compared to men.

What do I get from these conference? Well..learn to communicate with other people from another continents

Later in the night, I went to a dinner organised by Belia 4B Selangor at FEDERAL HOTEL in in Bukit Bintang. The MENU? AWESOME pals!

I was glad to attend this kinda gatheting..exposed to different horizons..

me..in the middle..it is good to be in the middle, isn't it?
